EVENT: Mayors’ Council on Regional Transportation and SFU Centre for Dialogue to host the 2024 Provincial Elxn Forum on Public Transportation on October 1

On October 1st, 2024, to mark the upcoming BC Provincial Election, candidates from the BC NDP, Conservative Party of BC and BC Greens have been invited to join a forum to discuss the role of public transportation in the livability of Metro Vancouver.
Hosted at the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue by the Moving in a Livable Region (MLR) initiative and the Mayors’ Council on Regional Transportation, members of the public will have the opportunity to learn about the candidates’ positions on the future of public transportation and the role it can play in tackling climate change, addressing cost of living, driving economic growth and supporting public health. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn about the needs of other members of the community and build a shared understanding of a vision for the future of our region.
“More than 400,000 people ride transit every day, meaning one in three people across Metro Vancouver use transit,” said Mayor Brad West, City of Port Coquitlam. “With the projected population growth in our region, it is important to ensure our transit infrastructure continues to grow. The upcoming provincial election is critical in deciding the future of public transit in our region.”
To date, candidates representing two of the parties have confirmed. Joining the forum from the BC NDP is Bowinn Ma, running for re-election in North Vancouver – Lonsdale. Recently the Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, Ms. Ma formerly served as the Parliamentary Secretary for TransLink. Representing the BC Greens is Adam Bremner-Akins, running in Port Coquitlam. Having previously run in 2020, at 18 years old, Mr. Bremner-Akins is currently the Party’s Secretary of the Provincial Council.
This event is non-partisan and not riding-specific.
Attendance is free, but registration is required for limited in-person seats.
